Hi, my name's Ryan. I’ve been writing text adventures in Inform 7 since 2011. If you haven’t used I7 before, you should give it a shot: You just type something like “The basement is a room. The player is in the basement. The duffel bag is a closed container in the basement. The player carries a tire iron.” and you’re already building a little world to play around in!
Emily Short wrote a very complimentary overview of my work a while back in which she quickly identified the core tenet of my ethos: “He [Ryan Veeder] really wants you to have a good time.” I’m passionate about distracting people from their problems with goofy entertainment, and I’m especially enamored of the text parser medium and its illusion of facilitating on a conversation between me and the player.
As of this writing, the only games I've uploaded to itch.io have been entries in game jams. I've written LOTS of other games. An exhaustive(-ish) inventory of my games is at the Interactive Fiction Database, with their ratings and reviews and awards and nominations.
Almost all of my games are free, but I’ve made a small amount of material exclusive to my Patreon.
